Marriott International, Inc has announced that the world-famous JW Marriott brand is coming to Auckland. It’ll be taking over the Stamford Plaza, an existing hotel on Albert Street in the CBD, where a $20 million refurbishment is being undertaken in phases – and has already begun. The hotel will reopen to the public as JW Marriott Hotel Auckland on December 16 this year, and the full renovation will be completed by mid-2024. Marriott International, Inc operates nearly 8200 hotels and resorts globally. The JW Marriott name is part of its luxury portfolio, with over 100 hotels in 35 countries and territories. A key touchstone of JW Marriott properties is that they have a focus on “holistic wellbeing”, and are designed to cater to sophisticated, mindful travellers. JW Marriott Hotel Auckland is planned to have an indoor heated swimming pool and large fitness centre, spa and sauna, plus a 100-seat buffet restaurant as well as a smaller “speciality” dining venue.
